The One with the October 2017 Empties

This is the latest I’ve ever been with my previous month’s empties and I apologize! Things have just been hectic lately and it’s been difficult catching the sun to photograph everything.

Just like my last empties post, I tried to sort everything into categories for you. Let’s just dive right into things!

Hair Care

Batiste Dry Shampoo + Marc Anthony Clear Dry Shampoo

Batiste Dry Shampoo

This is the “original clean & classic” scent of Batiste’s dry shampoo. I normally buy the tropical scent but sometimes it’s not available. I think this scent is fine but when I can, I’ll always choose the tropical!

I have talked about this dry shampoo so often so I’ll just say it’s amazing.

Repurchase? Always!

Marc Anthony Clear Dry Shampoo

For a non-residue dry shampoo, I was actually pretty impressed with this. I know a lot of people hate the residue that comes with a dry shampoo, but I actually like it. I’m weird, I know. XD I just find the dry shampoos that don’t leave a visible residue in the hair really don’t absorb my oil or give any volume.

This one does a pretty good job at absorbing oil so I think if you’re looking for a clear dry shampoo, this is a good one to try! It also smells pretty amazing, I must say.

Repurchase? No, because I already have a favourite dry shampoo (see above).

Bath & Body

The Body Shop Early-Harvest Raspberry Exfoliating Body Scrub-Gelee + The Body Shop Satsuma Shower Gel

The Body Shop Early-Harvest Raspberry Exfoliating Body Scrub-Gelee

I remember buying this after I tried it at my sister’s house. It looks like a tub of raspberry jam! It smells good but a little artificial. It does feel like you are smearing jam all over your body but it’s a pleasant experience.

I only found it mildly exfoliating but the scent really stays with you after using it.

Repurchase? No, I think I want to try other scents of scrubs from The Body Shop!

The Body Shop Satsuma Shower Gel

I really love this shower gel! The scent is an amazing citrus-y smell which is so heavenly. It’s really refreshing and wakes you up too! It leaves the whole bathroom smelling like oranges for a long time after your shower which is rare for a shower product, I find.

I don’t always have great luck with The Body Shop’s shower gels lathering well (unless I use a ton of product) but this Satsuma one lathers wonderfully. It’s the perfect summertime shower gel for me. It doesn’t dry out my skin but I haven’t tried it in the cold weather before.

Repurchase? Absolutely!

Skincare

Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser, Fresh Soy Face Cleanser + Fresh Soy Face Cleansing Milk

Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser

I adore the scent of this product. It really does have a tea-like scent. I love how much it foams up and my skin feels so clean after using this. It’s also left brightened and soft.

Repurchase? This is discontinued, which is a shame, so no. However, Ole Henriksen now has a new cleanser called “The Clean Truth Foaming Cleanser” which contains the same African red tea extract so I’d love to give it a try and see if it’s pretty much the same. I may even have a deluxe sample of it in my stash!

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

This is one of my favourite cleansers! You may be noticing a trend here… but I love the scent of this! XD It smells like fresh cucumbers which is so refreshing. But I also like this cleanser because it’s so gentle on the skin yet cleans so well. It doesn’t dry out my skin and it helps brighten as well.

Repurchase? The full size is a lot of money to spend on a cleanser, especially when you compare to the Ole Henriksen which is cheaper for even more product. So I don’t think I’ll purchase the full size.

Fresh Soy Face Cleansing Milk

This is the perfect cleanser for people who love this style of cleanser. I am not one of those people! I like a lathering cleanser and that is just my preference. But I can’t fault this product for simply not being my preference. It actually is really gentle and leaves the skin so soft!

Repurchase? No.

Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion, Dr. Belmeur Clarifying Toner + Nars Skin Multi-Action Hydrating Toner

Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion

Honestly, I hated this toner! I don’t like saying I hate a product and I like to find at least a few good things to say but I’m sorry, I just can’t think of anything for this one. It smells super strongly of chemicals and for me, it’s just so disgusting. It also felt very potent on my skin. I also didn’t find it to clear up my acne or help prevent it so for me, it’s not worth it.

Repurchase? Hard no.

Dr. Belmeur Clarifying Toner

Here is an example of a clarifying toner that is actually pleasant to use! It did not have any harsh chemical scents and it felt soooo nice on my skin! These little samples are obviously way too tiny to get a good idea if it helps prevent acne but I felt this product added some moisture into my skin while also controlling my oil.

Repurchase? I would definitely look into getting a full size when my toner stash is smaller.

Nars Skin Multi-Action Hydrating Toner

This quickly became my favourite toner of all-time! Yes, I said it! ALL TIME. HG right here. I was so sad how quickly I went through this! I didn’t want it to end! This product obviously made it into my October Favourites so I won’t go into too much detail. BUT I will say it smells amazing, adds moisture to the skin, exfoliates and brightens.

Repurchase? Here’s the tricky part. It’s hella expensive. Soooo I’d have to be feeling like a serious splurge in order to buy the full size.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster + Pur-lisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster

I have gone through a countless number of these minis and I used up the rest of the larger size in the beginning of October and the smaller size in less than a month. I use it every day as my skin’s dose of Vitamin C. I find it adds some hydration to my skin while also brightening it.

Repurchase? When I am out of minis? Maybe. It is expensive so I’d love to see if there is a cheaper alternative.

Pur-lisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum

I swear, my undereyes need this stuff. It’s only been a few weeks since I finished this up, and instead of busting out a new one from my stash, I’ve been trying to use up some other eye creams. Well, my fine lines have been paying for it. They have become more noticeable since I stopped using this. That says a lot about this product.

Repurchase? I always thought I wouldn’t because of how expensive it is… but I think it is actually worth the high cost since it clearly gives me results.

Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream, Avène Soothing Moisture Mask + Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream

Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream

This product made it into my October Favourites as well so I will keep this short! Basically, I absolutely loved this despite having no expectations. It is so hydrating but not heavy at all! Best of all, it doesn’t look greasy and it works so well under makeup!

Repurchase? Well, price comes into play yet again. It’s something I would have to consider when my moisturizer stash comes to an end.

Avène Soothing Moisture Mask

I enjoyed using this. It’s super moisturizing! I always used it as a sleeping mask, so as my final skincare step. I find Avène products to be so gentle and soothing for the skin and this one is no exception. I definitely woke up with super soft and hydrated skin. I also didn’t find it to be greasy looking.

Repurchase? Yes.

Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream

Another product from my October Favourites! Again, I raved about this in that post so I’ll keep this brief. This feels as light as a gel cream but it packs a serious hydrating punch! There is no pilling under makeup (I have that problem with gel moisturizers) and it doesn’t look greasy at all, so it works great for oily skin.

Repurchase? I want to but it’s another pricey item. Again, I’d have to think about it when my moisturizer stash comes to an end!

Nexcare Acne Absorbing Covers + Bioderma Sensibio H20 Make-up Removing Micelle Solution

Nexcare Acne Absorbing Covers

I try to always keep these on hand. They are less than $10 on Amazon for 36 patches. They are excellent to draw out all the dirt and puss from those pesky pimples. I just recently tried the Cosrx version and they are great but are pretty much the same thing as these. The only difference is the Cosrx stick better. I can 9 times out of 10 get these ones to stick all night long, though.

Repurchase? Always.

Bioderma Sensibio H20 Make-up Removing Micelle Solution

Another product you’ve probably seen in my empties a million times! I really love this micellar water! Not only does it do a fantastic job at removing makeup (including eye makeup) but it doesn’t leave any weird residue on my skin.

Repurchase? Yes!

Cover Fx Mattifying Setting Spray

This is a great setting spray for those with oily skin! I actually did a lot of tests involving this setting spray back in September to see if it really made a big difference. It does but I didn’t find it anymore mattifying than my favourite L’oreal Infallible setting spray.

Repurchase? Probably not. I just can’t see myself spending more money when I can spend less on something else that works the same.

Conclusion

So in my rush to get these photos done, I definitely forgot a lot of products that I emptied last month. But, I will just include those in November’s empties post!

I also really need to make more of an effort to include my “empty” mascaras in these posts. For some reason, when I’m done using a mascara, I simply let it sit around instead of just getting rid of it. I think it’s because they aren’t technically empty (I’ve just chosen to move on to a new one). I actually really want to start doing individual mascara reviews for you guys since it’s my favourite makeup item!

You may also notice my sheet masks missing! I decided since I have so many and because I kept notes on them last month, I’m going to do a separate post for them. Empties posts get so long so this will help keep them a bit shorter. 🙂

  1. Oh no you’re out of that Nars toner! Maybe you can find another bottle at winners?
That’s unfortunate that the Ole Henriksen cleanser was discontinued. I hope the Clean Truth cleanser is similar!

  2. I just want to say your photos are beautiful! I also used up a sample of the Peter Thomas Roth moisturizer and thought it was really nice, but I know I can get other good moisturizers for less.

    1. Thank you so much! The PTR worked so well for me. I haven’t used many moisturizers better at this point but at the same time, it’s hard to justify spending that much money on one product!

      1. Not sure what your skin type is or where you are, but Ponds Dry Skin Cream has been great for me! As someone with dry skin, I use moisturizer A LOT, so I need something affordable.

  3. Whoa so many awesome empties! I’m a huge fan of the Fresh Soy Cleanser but the full size is so expensive!! I always just buy it within a set. Now that you mention the Ole Henriksen, I love foaming cleansers so I would want to give it a try!

    1. Yeah it’s so hard to bring myself to spend that much money on just a cleanser! Luckily I tend to end up with few minis here and there. The Ole is hopefully similar to the old version! I think there’s a $12 small size you could try out!

  4. I am with you about having a tough time catching the sun for pictures! That aside, wow, what a huge list of empties! I dislike the Fresh Soy Cleanser, I just feel it to be slimy and doesn’t do anything for my skin. I have the full size CoverFx Illuminating Spray thanks to BoxyCharm and I really like it, now I plan to get the matte version.

  5. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again; You’re so good at having so many empties each month! I’m such a beauty addict, but I also find it so important to use up stuff inseatd of just hoarding it. Those Nexcare patches are everything. Like why didn’t I know about them in my early teens *sighs*

    1. I wouldn’t be able to justify buying so much skincare if I didn’t actually use it! Makeup I am having a hard time using up, other than mascara. I can’t believe I didn’t know about acne patches earlier either! I’ve only been using them the last year or two! I seriously had no clue and they’re definitely a life saver!

  6. You got through a lot! The collagen booster and eye serum sound SO good, it’s is kind of annoying when you love something but it’s so expensive! The Avene moisture mask sounds like something I would like too 🙂 x

  7. It’s crazy how fast you go through skincare! It takes me so long, haha.

I didn’t like that Fresh Cleansing Milk either, it feels like it doesn’t clean the skin well enough! But like you said, it’s probably more of a personal preference. I do want to try the Soy Cleanser though, I haven’t used many Fresh products before but it sounds lovely!

    1. Yeah cleansing milks aren’t my thing! I also feel like they don’t clean the skin well enough! I think it’s just the fact that I always grew up with cleansers that lather – it’s probably a head thing lol. The Soy Cleanser is more my cup of tea!

  8. Impressive mini’s empties :D. I’d need to try that Fresh cleanser. I’ve seen it before, but always doubted. I’ll make sure to check it out. xoxo Sarah
