The One with the Ipsy October 2017 Glam Bag

Hello my lovely friends! In today’s blog post, I am revealing my October Ipsy bag! The theme this month is “Spellbound” which coincidentally was also Boxycharm’s theme for the month!

Obviously, October is the month of Halloween so it’s easy to see how that happened! Ipsy believes that the overall feel of this month is enchanting, mysterious and different with the cooler air, darker nights and changing leaves! They are embracing change this month and think we should too!

I personally dislike change so I don’t know about that… XD But I love Fall so I’ll accept the weather changes until Winter comes and then my acceptance ability will wear thin!

Ipsy October 2017 Glam Bag
Let’s take a look at the lovely bag this month. I’ll admit, I was a tad let down when I first pulled this bag out of my shiny pink envelope. From the picture preview, I honestly thought it was going to be real lace and I thought that was so cool and unique! It turns out it is not real lace but rather a faux leather style bag with a lace print.

The print needs to have the light reflecting on it at the right angles to view it. There is a little bat charm attached to the zipper which I think is an adorable touch and definitely makes the bag feel more Halloween-y! The shade of burgundy is a nice Fall colour. Overall, I think this bag is really pretty!

Let’s find out what’s in my Glam bag!

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara

You guys, this mascara is AMAZING. I just tried it for the first time tonight and I am shook! It gave me long, full, fanned, curled lashes. No smudging. No flaking. No clumping. What is this sorcery?! And why aren’t more people raving about this sleeper?!

When I saw I was getting this mascara in my glam bag, I literally thought “not again…” Not because I have received it from Ipsy before but because I just got a decent sized one from the Sephora Superstars set (review here) and I also have a mini from some Tarte set I bought a long time ago (this is the one I used tonight). I love receiving mascara but I also love variety because apparently my goal in life is to try alllll the mascaras… >_<

But now I’m super pumped I was sent this mascara!! Now I have 2 backups! 😀 I can’t get over how great this made my lashes look. I think the reason I’m so excited is also because of how easy it was to apply. You know how some mascaras you really need to spend some quality time applying it and the result is great but you wish it happened a lot quicker?! The application with this Tarte one was a breeze!

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Airbrush Silk Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Airbrush Silk Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder

This was my choice for the month of October! For those that don’t know, Ipsy allows you to email them with your pick out of a handful of products and they will guarantee that item in your bag! Unfortunately, I believe October was the last month to do that but they will be implementing a new customization option soon!

I’m always interested in trying new powders because with my oily skin, powdering is a must. But I hate the look of powder on my face because I feel like it emphasizes pores, fine lines, texture, dry skin, etc. I’m hoping this will be the magical solution to that problem!

This powder is unbelievably soft and silky to the touch. It claims to blur pores and imperfections for an airbrushed finish. It also contains anti-aging ingredients such as peptides, collagen and antioxidants. I’m not getting any younger so bring them on!

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration

I think I wasn’t crazy for this product being included in my Glam bag because I already own a couple of these. I also have so many moisturizers I need to get through and this will be another one for the long daunting list! In fact, I haven’t even got to my other tubes of this yet. Stash problems…

But I hate to judge my Ipsy bag or any subscription in that manner. It’s what we sign up for when we agree to have surprise bags sent our way! I always remind myself that Ipsy does not know what is already in my collection. Ipsy does not know what another subscription box may have sent me recently. Those points can factor into excitement levels during bag reveal but at the end of the day, I try to remember that at least I got something I’ll use and not something I hate!

This cream actually seems really great. It’s supposed to be amazing for dry skin and even works for eczema, which is great because my son gets it sometimes and this is safe to use on kids!

Context Vitamin C All Day Eye Cream

Context Vitamin C All Day Eye Cream

You don’t know how long I spent trying to decide between this eye cream and the Bye Bye Pores as my “choice” this month! This would have been the more “safe” choice because I knew I’d use it. The powder was more of a gamble but a little more exciting so that’s why I ended up choosing it.

I was very pleased to see I ended up getting this eye cream anyway! I’ve probably mentioned a thousand times how expensive I think eye creams are! I love receiving them in subscriptions or value sets so I can put off buying full sizes for as long as possible!

This sounds like a great day eye cream since it contains Vitamin C to brighten the undereye and provide antioxidants to the skin. It’s supposed to be lightweight and hydrating, too! Other key ingredients are echinacea, licorice and grape seed extract, and Vitamin E.

I really love the monochrome look to the packaging and by the way, this is the full size product!!

Hey Honey Trick and Treat Active Propolis Cream Concealer in Natural Tone

Hey Honey Trick and Treat Active Propolis Cream Concealer in “Natural Tone”

Hey Honey makes one of my favourite serums (Good Morning Honey Silk Serum) but I’ve never tried anything else from their brand before! I was stoked to receive this concealer to try! It is in the shade “natural tone” and it’s the only shade available, so that’s a little weird. It’s not like concealer is something that can be universal.

I find the shade to blend in pretty well with the skin on my hand so it may actually be too dark for under my eyes but that is just me assuming things. I haven’t tried it on the face yet. I am really loving the texture it’s showing on my hand, though. It seems to be buildable coverage and very blendable. Of course, the real test will be under the eyes!.

This concealer, along with Hey Honey’s other products, is made with Propolis and you may be wondering what that is. It’s an ingredient that honey bees collect from flowers. It helps restore your skin’s structure and protects against damage!

Ipsy October 2017 Glam Bag

Final Thoughts?

Ipsy sent me a very high value bag this month! I’m very impressed. At first glance, I honestly didn’t find this to be an exciting bag but rather, a practical one. For me, that may be even better because I know I will get use out of each and every item!

I was really worried because after October 1st rolled around, I realized that I forgot to rate the items in my September bag. I never forget to rate my items so I was nervous I would receive a crap bag that didn’t suit my preferences. I got really lucky that I like everything in here!

The item I am most excited about is the mascara, now that I know it’s amazing, as well as the concealer, eye cream and finishing powder. Yes, I realized I just named 4 out of 5 of my bag items. XD

What did you get in your Ipsy bag this month? I hope you were happy with your bag and you got some useful products!!

P.s. I noticed on my Ipsy account that I have 5 free bags to send to friends! The invite is valid only for first-time subscribers. I do not receive any compensation, points, etc. for sending them out. I think every long-time subscriber gets these free bags to send out. Anyway, if you’re interested, let me know in the comments with your name/email (or DM me on Instagram/Twitter if you’d rather not leave the information publicly) and I’ll send one to each of the first 5 who ask. I would just recommend to read the details of the offer carefully because your “subscription” for the free bag may auto-renew so don’t forget to cancel if you don’t plan on subscribing afterwards!

  1. Looks like a great bag this month! I think I prefered last years October bag with all the cute bat designs, but it’s still nice.
That’s awesome that you got a full sized eye cream, way to go ipsy! I just started using the first aid beauty moisturizer, I like it a lot. It’s really lightweight but still hydrating. Not too exciting though if you already have one!

Haha it’s true. I might pick it up full size when I get back to canada, luckily I don’t have more than one lying around.
