The One with the Ipsy August 2017 Glam Bag

I was so excited to receive both my Ipsy and my Topbox early last week! I was able to get my Topbox post up (here) but this one took a little more time because I was on vacation! I spent half my time visiting my sister and the other half at the cottage. It was a nice break from reality but I’m super excited to get back into writing my blog posts! 😀  I’ve also spent some time on a new look and logo! Hope you enjoy!

This month’s Ipsy bag had the option to come with one of three sayings – “Peace Love Lipstick,” “Wild & Free,” and “Good Vibes Only.” As you can see, I received the latter. I didn’t really have a preference about which one I wanted but I think the “Good Vibes Only” suits me the best! I think the bags this month are very pretty! I like how they all look like a sunset.

What is it? Ipsy Glam Bag
How much is it? $10 USD per month or $110 USD yearly
Ships to? Canada & US
Shipping costs? $4.95 USD per month; Free for US
What’s inside? 5 deluxe sample or full size beauty products, plus a makeup bag

Now let’s take a look at what I got in my bag!

Aurora Pro Colour Corrector
This concealer comes in the shade “Pistachio.” I was happy to get this because I was actually in need of a green concealer! I like that it’s a paler green than some of the more vibrant greens I’ve seen! I haven’t heard of this company before but it appears to be an American company and is cruelty free.

I tested it out on both acne scarring and cystic acne. It performed well over top of flat acne scarring. It cancelled out the redness and regular concealer layered well over top. I like that it’s a liquid because it won’t make my makeup look cakey compared to a stick or pot concealer. Cystic acne is tricky because it’s extremely difficult to cover even with the best products. It didn’t hide all the redness for me because it doesn’t stick to the bumpy part. I need to use a thicker concealer for it to stick better.

They do not sell this “pro colour” version on their website but they do sell a “pro coverup” version for $8 USD. It doesn’t have a size listed on the website but it looks to be about double the size of this Ipsy exclusive version, so that is how I estimated it’s value. 🙂
Retail Value: $5.03 CAD for 4.5 ml (estimated – approx. $4 USD)

theBalm Voyage Vol. 2 Eyeshadow
I think we all roll our eyes a little when we see another itty bitty theBalm sample in one of our bags! And it’s unfortunate because I almost always love the product itself. Luckily, this eyeshadow will be easy to use!

We could receive one of two shades – “Kuwakaribisha,” a pale peach, and “Willkommen,” a deep caramel. I received the shade that I wanted most which was “Kuwakaribisha.” It can also be used as a highlighter in addition to an eyeshadow. It is nicely pigmented and simply a stunning colour. It also feels so soft and velvety. I’m really loving this!

This shade is sold in a palette called “Voyage Vol. 2” in a 2.5 g pan. All shades are the word for “welcome” in different languages! “Kuwakaribisha” is Swahili.
Retail Value: $1.12 USD / $1.41 CAD for 0.6 g (full size pan is $4.68 USD / $5.88 CAD for 2.5 g ~ entire palette is $39.50 USD / $49.62 CAD for 21.1 g)

SLMissGlam T35 Precise Blending Brush
This is the 4th brush I’ve received from SLMissGlam! They really are some of the cutest brushes out there! I love the teal handle in combination with the rose gold ferrule. So pretty! It’s also nice and soft and cruelty free! I have a bigger fluffier version of this brush which I enjoy more for blending nose contour, believe it or not. So I’m happy to get this precise version because I feel like my eyes are on the small side so I appreciate a smaller blending brush.

This is another product that was a little trickier to calculate its value! SLMissGlam doesn’t sell individual brushes anymore. They used to so I used the cost of another eyeshadow blending brush I received from them in the past as well as using the average price from their “Teal Glam Brush Book.” Because this is an Ipsy exclusive brush, it is not included in that set ($325 USD for 25 brushes so $13 USD per brush on average) but they are the same style of brushes.
Retail Value: $14 USD / $17.60 CAD (full size)

Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash Arresting Volume Mascara
Every month, we are able to email Ipsy and ask to receive one product from a list of 5 or 6 items. Only a couple items interested me so I asked to receive this mascara! I’ve been going through my mascara much quicker lately because I haven’t bothered to keep using the entire tube if I’m not happy with it.

Based on Ipsy’s description, this mascara sounds fantastic! It provides fanned out lashes which is what I like and is a super dark black. I need my mascaras as black as possible! I am worried it will be a bit clumpy because it is a volumizing mascara but I’m just hoping for the best!
Retail Value: $9.12 CAD for 2.5 ml (full size is $31 for 8.5 ml)

Secret Key Nature Recipe Sheet Mask Duo
I absolutely adore sheet masks and I also love that Ipsy always sends them out in pairs! We received “Tea Tree” and “Honey.” The tea tree mask contains tea tree leaf extract, hyaluronic acid and centella asiatica extract to calm and soothe sensitive and irritated skin while also hydrating and providing radiance. The honey mask is formulated with honey, royal jelly extract and centella asiatica extract to enhance elasticity, hydration, and it nourishes the skin for a healthier glow.

I’m particularly excited about the tea tree mask because I’ve never tried one before. It will be nice to use during breakouts! And of course, the honey one will be perfect when my skin is feeling parched!
Retail Value: $6 USD / $7.54 CAD for 2 (full size)

Total Retail Value: $40.70 CAD

Final Thoughts? First of all, I don’t think I’ve ever had to spend so much time doing math for my blog. XD So many items this month just weren’t easy! I spent hours working on this. With that said, I got it done and while the value this month isn’t anything spectacular, I feel very satisfied with my bag!

The item I am most excited about is the tea tree sheet mask! I am very happy to say that I didn’t get a single product this month that I was upset with! I will use everything I got and I think a few of these things may turn into favourites.

  1. Girl your photography is top notch!! 😍😍 Love the new look and the tiger lily sign off!! Did you design it yourself?

That’s really cool about the eyeshadow shade names meaning welcome! I honestly didn’t think to hard about the name, I also had kind of a hard time tracking price points and products this month and gave up on finding the eyeshadow xD

    1. Thanks so much! I’m glad I spent the money on a good backdrop and started editing my pictures. It makes a big difference, although it’s way more time consuming lol. And yes, I designed the tiger lily myself! It’s been a long time since I’ve made any graphics so I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!

I was definitely wondering about the hard to pronounce names lol. I definitely can’t pronounce them but it’s cool to know what it means! The prices this month was so hard. I don’t think I’ve ever struggled that much trying to calculate an accurate value haha. I’m sure it’s close enough in the end lol.

      1. Backdrops make such a difference, I think I need a less blue backdrop because it messes with the lighting. It can take forever to edit photos, it pretty much doubles the time needed to write a post haha. That’s so cool that you designed the lily!

I think the slmissglam brush was the hardest value to calculate for me, so in the end I just made a guess 😅

    1. I always go back and forth on Boxycharm! I always love the items in their boxes but then I know I won’t use them enough. I was so tempted by this month’s box with the Rainforest of the Sea palette!

  2. I enjoyed this bag too. I am jealous of the mascara you got! I enjoyed the green concealer and balm voyage hilighter. People complain about sample sizes, but honestly I get so many hilighters from them that I would never use through them all anyways! The only thing I got I didn’t like was a winged charcoal eyeliner that just didn’t go on very well. I also got some masks but they were a different brand and were good. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I honestly wouldn’t go through full sizes either! I like getting minis to put in my z palette! I think little sizes like this are fine for eyeshadow but it is kind of annoying when they send out bronzers this size because you can’t get your bronzer brush in there and get an even application lol

I look forward to your Ipsy post so I can see what you got!

  3. Stunning pictures! I love the design of the bags this month. I don’t have an ipsy subscription anymore but I enjoy seeing what other people get 🙂 I just signed up for boxycharm so I am excited for that to start.

    1. Thanks so much! I love seeing what other people get in their sub boxes too! Even when I don’t subscribe to it! It makes it very difficult to resist signing up for more, though, lol.
